Abstract

This study aimed to examine the implementation of drumband musical activities in improving the gross motor skills of Group B early childhood learners at TK Al-Hidayah 70 Ambulu Jember during the 2022/2023 academic year. The research employed a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques to collect data from the school principal, teachers, and the coordinator of the drumband extracurricular program. The study focused on the planning, implementation, supporting factors, inhibiting factors, and indicators of gross motor development achieved through drumband activities. The findings revealed that drumband musical activities were conducted through several stages, including preparation of the practice area and musical instruments, provision of instructions and warm-up activities, demonstration of drumming techniques, song practice, repetition of rhythmic movements, and closing activities. These activities successfully improved children’s gross motor skills, particularly in body coordination, balance, flexibility, agility, hand-eye coordination, and the skillful use of both hands. Children were also able to participate in physical activities according to rules and independently maintain personal hygiene after practice sessions. Supporting factors included adequate facilities, teacher demonstrations, and patient guidance from teachers, while inhibiting factors involved children’s fluctuating moods and the limited number of teaching staff. Overall, the study concluded that drumband musical activities effectively supported the gross motor development of early childhood learners and created an enjoyable and engaging learning environment.
